In the midst of a Filipino teenager’s eyes lie unspoken insights that are waiting to be unraveled. Shards intentionally slashed on their own bodies hold more meaning than what the plain sight could see, for the truth’s usually secluded behind scars. Self-harm had been a huge factor for some in order to cope with emotional distress. With this, the study revolves around the mental and emotional state of an individual, as it turns out to be a contributing factor to the self-harming behavior observed among adolescents. The main purpose of this study is to identify the various self-harming behaviors whilst analyzing the factors that contribute to the reasons behind self-harming behavior at the same time generating possible interventions to avoid the particular practice. Thus, to generate the perspectives of the respondents, the researchers used a qualitative or descriptive type of research and focused on narrative research design to accumulate qualitative textual information and uncover descriptive data based on the respective experiences and views of the respondent. The data gathered was grouped thematically based on the theoretical and conceptual frameworks and the general factors behind the answers of the respondents. This study identified superficial self-injury and behavioral changes as the self-harming behaviors that are experienced by the respondents. The researchers have determined how Emotional impact, Psychological factors, and Psychophysiological Responses contribute to the motivation that led the respondent to resort to self-harm. The research study also shows that Openness to Experience, Hobbies, Social Bonding, and Self-expression are some ways that may intervene and avoid self-harming behavior. Moreover, open forums, workshops, and wellness retreats are also applicable to intervene and avoid the risks of self-harming behavior.
